Hiking from Pass to Pass

Hiking from the Gotthard- to the Furka pass (or the other way round) is a high alpine tour of considerable length taking two days. Although the path is relatively easy an appropriate equipment (hiking boots, protection from rain and sun, map and compass) is required as well as we recommend to ask for the current conditions at the hut.

Here we describe the routes from both passes to the hut (first day). On the second day just go back the second route in the opposite direction.

From the Gotthard pass to the hut, easier variant

(EB) Worthwhile hike through an ever changing scenery. 5 hours from Galleria Banchi. Combination of the routes 504, 499 and 496 of the SAC Clubführer Gotthard (1995).

From the Galleria Banchi (bus stop) take the good path to the point 2045, continue below the Pizzo di Fieud to the Posso die dentro (point 2090). Climb from point 2063 on a trail to the Cavanna pass (2613 m) where the colours of the trail marks change to white-blue-white. From the Cavanna pass follow the path on the ridge in western direction, until the ridge gets narrower. Walk almost horizontally to the north and after a short descent you'll reach the Hüenerattel (Pt. 2695 m). From the Hüenersattel the path continues below the Witenwassernstock and finally reaches the hut.

From the Gotthard pass to the hut, harder variant

(EB) Worthwhile hike through an ever changing scenery. 6 hours from the Gotthardhospiz. Combination of the routes 571, 503, 499 and 496 of the SAC Clubführer Gotthard (1995). Note: The part from the Lucendro pass to the cavanna passis very exposed. One needs save step. Slipping may be fatal in on some spots

From the Gotthardhospiz (2091 m, bus stop) take the path (marked white-red-white) to the Lago di Lucendro which is passed on its northern banks to the Alpe di Lucendro (2189 m). Turn south on a good trail to the Passo di Lucendro. Continue this trail to the south until you reach the Cresta del Poncionetto and move up the SE flank of the Pizzo Lucendro to a little col slightly north of Pt. 2508.6. Now follow this trail to the Cavanna pass (2613 m) where the colours of the trail marks change to white-blue-white. GPS tracklog and maps here.

On the Way from the Furkapass to the Rotondo Hut

From the Furkapass to the hut

(EB) Alpine walk trough a wild-romantic landscape. 6 hours of the Furkapass. Continuously marked from the Furka pass.

From the Furkapass (bus stop) on white-red-white marked path trough the NE flank of the Blauberg (crossing the points 2552, 2621 and 2641). From there walk through the north-flank of the Rottällihorn (Points 2434, 2461,0, 2565, 2658) to the Point 2748.1. Now follow the ridge of the Rottaelli ridge for approx. 300 m in south-western direction, until path divides where you turn south to the Rotondo hut. GPS track and map here.
