The following routes are particularly suitable for snow shoe runners leading through a fascinating and changing alpine landscape.
A route with ideal upward gradient through the wild-romantic Witenwasseren valley. 1040 m difference in altitude. 4 hours for the ascent, 3 hours for the descent. Same as the ski route description of the route here.
Worthwhile tour on two impressive mountains. 4-5 hours for both summits including the return to the hut. From the Rotondo hut ascend on the Witenwasseren glacier to the Witenwasseren pass. Traverse below the Witenwasserenstock indirection southeast and climb the NE ridge, which is reached between point 2908 and 3025, near two old military huts. Now follow the ridge to the main summit, Pt. 3082 m, (attention: cornice). To climb Pizzo Pesciora, rappel down 20 m from a small gap west of the east summit. Leave the rope in place if you intend to return on the same route. Continue on the Geren glacier to the foot of a steep snow field on the north side of Pizzo Pesciora. Across this snow field, without snow shoes, climb the ridge between the Gerenhorn (3078 m) and Pizzo Pesciora (3122 m) and follow the SW ridge to the summit. Return on the same route.
Short trip to the closest mountain of the Rotondo hut (500 m ascend and descent, 21/2 hours with return to the hut). Walk south of the Rotondo hut into the saddle 200 m of the Leckipass (2892 m). From there climb the north ridge of the Gross Leckihorn to the summit cross - depending on the conditions with the snow shoes or on foot. On the same way back to the hut.
Extremely delightful route (6-7 hours to Realp, 700 m ascent and 1900 m descent) same route as with ski (description of route).
